Samurai festival is the event which high school students are executive every year.Originally, This event start in order to talk about the future of Kumamoto with high school students, mayor and people of downtown stores There are lots of events such as open discussion with mayor and bazaar.Loveland cooperates to provide clothes for fashion show and fair trade products every year.It's so lively event for two days.

Submission of 10,000 signatures to Seishi Koyama Kumamoto mayor and Seiji Sakata city assembly chairman article at Apr. 24th in Kumanichi newspaper.The content of article is signature rally since Autumn 2009 in order to get the 1000th certification in the world as fair trade town, also at the first fair trade town in the Asia as well.

Interview with Eriko Takefuji (vice representative) and Café Hachidori articles in the Feb. issue of the mocos.
Kumamoto’s economic status is expected to rise after the opening of the entire Kyushu Shinkansen Line in March of 2011.The Kumamoto information magazine, mocos, in collaboration with the feature, MachixHito, on KAB TV, created the new feature, Sakura Toiro. This feature brought ten women who can be said to be key people of Kumamoto City into the public eye and showed what they think of Kumamoto. Vice-Representative of Fair Trade Kumamoto, Eriko Takefuji, was one of these women. The article, appearing in mocos, featured an interview with her and talked about the Fair Trade Student cafe at the Kumamoto International Center.After working at a TV station in Kumamoto for about ten years, she studied Peace & Conflict Resolution at a university in the Republic of Ireland. Since returning to Kumamoto, she has promoted fair trade. This article is filled with her thoughts on fair trade.

Shoko Akashi is a representative of fair trade Kumamoto. She appeared in the feature "new discovery in Kumamoto" of "Furusato information station" which is broadcasted every Friday on KAB (Kumamoto Asahi Broadcasting Co, Ltd.)The progress of collecting 10,000 signatures on the street to become fair trade city was broadcasted. And she said that nowadays many people know about fair trade: She met people who carried fair trade books with them, others studied about fair trade in school.

Fair Trade meeting article in the Mainichi newspaper (Japan's original principal "Contribution to local vitalization" is added to Fair trade town principles. )
The progress of the Fair trade Network Preparation Committee on the 22nd and 23rd was reported on the economic page in Kumanichi Newspaper. The article was about the Japanese original standard, "Contribution to local vitalization", which was added at the meeting. The article went on to include an explanation by Representative Mrs. Akashi on how by joining with a thousand other cities around the world in becoming a fair trade city, Kumamoto City will gain more prominence in the world.So far fair trade articles in culture page but in this time the article in economic page, it showed the fair trade movement in Kumamoto had a step forward.

Fair trade seminar invited professor Ryuya Watanabe and exchange meeting
At the end of the fair trade meeting in January, Professor Ryuya Watanabe, professor at Tokyo Business University and a representative director of FTTJ, spoke at the seminar, "What is a fair trade city?"In his lecture, he went over the merits of becoming a fair trade city. Such merits included raising the value of the city, being connected with a thousand towns and cities around the world, being part of an international problems solution.After the seminar, each participant wrote on a piece of paper what they can do and what they want to do in the fair trade city and shared it with the other participants. Some participants drew pictures that moved others to tears. There was a sense of unity among the participants as they shared their visions for the city. It was a warm and heartfelt exchange filled with hope and willingness to achieve a fair trade city in Kumamoto.

The 4th fair trade town network meeting in Kumamoto
Fair Trade Town Japan (FTTJ) was established on January 22th, 2011, and has taken many steps to create fair trade towns in Japan.This has involved obtaining authorization for creating fair trade towns in Japan as well as promoting the creation of fair trade towns in multiple cities across Japan. FTTJ is comprised of people from various regions, including Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Kumamoto, who are concerned about education, the fair trade label and the fair trade student network in Japan. Meetings have been held in Tokyo, Nagoya and most recently in Kumamoto.This meeting lasted for two days, including a semi-closed meeting and a closed meeting. People from various businesses attended the semi-closed meeting. These were people interested in Kumamoto Prefecture, the city, the media or fair trade shops in general. With the excitement surrounding Kumamoto becoming Japan’s first fair trade city, many people had different opinions and the meeting saw an active exchange of ideas. In this meeting, Japanese fair trade authorizing standards were determined and Fair Trade Town Japan (FTTJ) was formally established as an organization for promoting the fair trade movement in Japan.

Fair trade seminar "Nokushikata ~ Bengal tradition and women~"
Tomoko Uchiyama, who lived in Bangladesh for three years and works for the international NGO, Shaplaneer, held a lecture on Nokushikata on January 21th, 2011. Nokushikata is the traditional embroidery in Bangladesh. Ms. Uchiyama introduced the culture of Nokushikata, how it is passed down from mother to daughter, and what the women think of Nokushikata. Moreover, she told us about the Nokushikata producers, their hopes of improving their financial situations and how the fair trade movement has influenced their lives. Nowadays in Bangladesh, there are many movements to improve the lives of women through the production of Nokushikata. She explained the meaning of and the problems of fair trade according to each producers and the changes that have come as a result of their participation in fair trade.
