Most of the coffee producers are individual farmers from around the world. Unaware of market distribution, farmers cannot escape this situation and have to keep producing and selling the products to the middlemen for a lower than market price. They are economically struggling and for example cannot send their children to school. Instead they have to help on the coffee farms. Thus when they grow up, they cannot get well-paid job. That’s way this bad circle is completed. Moreover, fair trade coffee covers the general fair trade standards set by the FLO (fair trade International). In case the market price is lower than the fair trade minimum, the buyer must pay the higher price.
